The major power-outage in Southern California yesterday disrupted my blogging, but we’re back now! It was nice to see people out and about on the streets, socializing, cooking BBQ, and relaxing with no TV or internet to glow on our faces. Congratulations to kids with no school today!

I’ve painted this post with a few meanings of blue. Find out why at the bottom—

Wednesday morning, I spent some time mentally preparing for a corporate team-builder. Here were the details:

Corporate Team Building San Diego

Blue {Masculine} :: These were mostly grown men. 40 engineers. Men on drums. Men with rhythm. Men who were ready to rumble. And two lovely ladies.

Blue {Blue Skies & Ocean Blue} :: The venue was a beautiful resort on the San Diego Bay, in the resort’s grass area right next to the beach. People run, bike, roller blade, play volleyball, swim, and skateboard down the boardwalk. It is a gorgeous site, and perfect for a day of bonding with the team outside of the office.

Blue {Calming} :: In one of my most relaxing moments of the morning Wednesday, before the teambuilder, while showering, I got this great idea. I’m sure I’m not the first to think of it, but once in a blue moon I get a pretty good idea. When this idea came to me, I *knew* it would turn into a big success.

Blue {Power Suit of the Corporate World} :: Here was my idea for the group of 40 engineers. Imagine the grand finale of the team-builder. We’ve got 2 line formations, facing each other, close together. Just like a spirit tunnel you might’ve participated in during grade school, one person runs down through the tunnel. Only, our “spirit” was DRUMS, and the contest winners would run down the tunnel for a big gong strike at the end.

Blue {Throat Chakra} :: But wait, we needed a contest so that we could have winners. I invited volunteers to speak up, enter the center of the circle, and proceed with an Arthurian game that I like to call “Mind the Gap.” The volunteer gets blindfolded and spun around in circles. Then the volunteer must try to find his gap in the circle where there’s no drum-playing. The point is that the team helps him succeed by drummunicating and leading him to find the missing space in the circle. When he finds it, then the team is whole again, and everyone cheers.

Blue {A Bolt From The Blue} :: After Mind the Gap and a bunch of fun rhythm games and bonding experiences, we ended with the Drum Tunnel. It was a HUGE success, and very well-received. Laughing, joking, high-fiving, chest-bumping, smiling, cheering, and then onto beach sports for the team! Watch the video of the drum tunnel below:

My contact person told me after the entire day of team building, the drum circle was the best part of the event!

Here’s what participants have said:

This is the first time I have experienced anything like this in any team outing, and it was out of this world! Everyone participated, so much fun and good exercise on top of that!

Please do everything to make this happen more often!

My favorite part was making noise for no real reason.

You can come with ZERO prior experience, still contribute, and enjoy this team building routine!

I am so grateful for my wonderful clients. I’m so fortunate to have the opportunity to share and witness these incredible experiences that they create within the team. Congratulations, team!

I’m also grateful for my awesome team: Jay Jay on drums/melodica and Matt on the camera!
